Brown vinyl plank gives you the look of a wood floor with a core that doesn’t swell when it gets wet. Many of Besso’s brown planks have a rigid SPC (stone plastic composite) core, which makes them a practical choice for kitchens, basements and condos where hardwood would be a risk.

How much brown vinyl flooring do you need?
Measure the room and add about 10 percent for cuts. For a 300 sq ft living room, that’s 330 sq ft. In Panda SPC3500 series at 24.23 sq ft a box, you need 14 boxes, about $472 before tax. In 7mm Rosie, Percy or Ernest at 22.09 sq ft a box, you need 15 boxes, about $858. In Fuzion 8.3mm Grounded at 22.07 sq ft a box, you need 15 boxes, about $1,619.
Choosing a shade of brown
Light and medium brown
Light and medium browns hide dust, pet hair and small scratches better than dark floors, and they keep a small room or a basement from feeling closed in. They’re the easiest browns to pair with white, grey or wood cabinets.
Dark brown
Dark brown, like espresso or walnut tones, looks rich in large, bright rooms and pairs well with white trim and light walls. It shows dust, footprints and scratches through the wear layer more than lighter shades, so it suits homes without large dogs and rooms with good daylight.
Warm or cool undertones
Some browns lean warm (red, orange or gold) and some lean cool (grey-brown). Hold a plank next to your cabinets, trim and any existing wood floors in daylight, because undertones that clash look stronger across a whole floor than on a small sample.
Thickness and wear layer
Besso’s brown vinyl runs from 3mm to 9mm thick. Thicker rigid planks feel more solid and bridge small dips in the subfloor better, and many include an attached pad. The wear layer is what protects the colour and print, so compare it for busy rooms: Panda’s SPC3500 series has a 0.3mm (12 mil) wear layer and Inklin Hickory Brown has 0.5mm (20 mil).
Where brown vinyl flooring works
Brown SPC vinyl suits basements, kitchens, entryways and condos, because the core won’t swell from spills or mopping. In a basement, test the slab for moisture and use a vapour barrier underlay if the plank has no attached pad. In a condo, check your building’s sound rating before you choose, and ask your property manager what underlay it requires.
Brown vinyl vs. brown hardwood and laminate
Choose vinyl where water is likely, such as basements, bathrooms and kitchens. Choose engineered or solid hardwood for real wood that can be refinished, and laminate for a hard, scratch-resistant surface in dry rooms. Besso has brown engineered flooring and brown laminate flooring if you want the same colour family in another material.
Caring for brown vinyl flooring
Sweep or vacuum often, especially on darker browns, and clean with a damp mop and a pH-neutral cleaner. Put felt pads under furniture legs and mats at exterior doors to keep grit and winter salt from scratching the wear layer.
